The amount of real estate purchased in Türkiye by foreign investors is increasing day by day. A significant increase was observed in the first quarter of 2020 compared to 2019. So, which countries are buying the most real estate in Türkiye?


Statistics on housing sales in the first quarters of 2019 and 2020 have been released. According to data from the Land Registry's Department of Foreign Affairs, despite the pandemic, the number of real estate purchases by foreigners, based on square footage, increased in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the first quarter of 2019.


In the first quarter of 2019, foreigners purchased 1,898,694 square meters of real estate in Turkey. This year, the figure has reached 3,035,099 square meters. According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the total number of properties sold in the first quarter of 2020 was 10,948. While a decrease was expected due to the pandemic, the opposite occurred thanks to the positive sentiment surrounding Turkey. A 13.8% increase was recorded compared to the first quarter of 2019, resulting in a total of 13,581 housing sales to foreigners in the three-month period of 2020.

In the first quarter, 140 US homes were sold, and the total area of these homes sold to Americans was determined to be 101,794 square meters.

It is known that Iranians are also quite keen on buying housing in Türkiye. In the first quarter, sales were made to a total of 2405 people. The total square footage is 125,543.

The number of people coming from Egypt to buy housing in Türkiye is also quite high. In the first quarter, a total of 282 people purchased housing. The total square footage was determined to be 138,226.

It has been determined that Afghans purchased a total of 875 homes in the first quarter. The total square footage purchased was announced as 143,244.

The total number of people from Qatar who purchased housing was 143. This resulted in the purchase of 190,876 square meters of land.
Iraqis are practically desperate to own homes in Türkiye. It has been learned that 2,341 people purchased homes in the first quarter, with a total area of 95,947 square meters acquired.
