Details of the first bridge to be built over the Canal Istanbul
The first bridge to be constructed as part of the Canal Istanbul project will connect to the Sazlıdere crossing within the scope of the Northern Marmara Highway Project's Başakşehir – Bahçeşehir – Nakkaş section. The first bridge will have a total length of 1,618 meters. It will provide 2x4 lane traffic flow. The bridge will be 46 meters wide, and its towers, constructed with a diamond geometry, will reach 196 meters in height.
The main span of the first bridge to be constructed will be 440 meters. With side spans of 210 meters each on the right and left, the total length will be 860 meters. Including the viaducts, the total length will reach 1,618 meters. The number of inclined suspension cables is calculated as 136, and the number of anchors as 272. The bridge towers will have variable box sections in terms of plan dimensions and wall thickness. The towers will stand on two reinforced concrete piers. These piers will be connected to each other at the deck level and at the top via beams.
6 BRIDGES WILL BE CONSTRUCTED.
The Canal Istanbul project includes the construction of a total of 6 bridges along the route. The overall cost of the project is estimated at $15 billion according to current calculations. The cost of the 6 bridges to be constructed is estimated at $1.4 million each. However, these costs may decrease during the bidding process.
TO BE COMPLETED IN 5 YEARS
According to information provided by officials from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the Canal Istanbul project will create 500,000 jobs during its construction phase. Once completed, two separate cities will be built on either side of the canal. A study is being prepared to recoup the cost of the Canal Istanbul project through housing projects in these areas. The construction work, which is expected to last 5 years, is aimed to be completed by 2027 at the latest.
