According to the Turkish Wind Energy Association, 79 companies operating in the wind energy sector exported equipment and parts for power plants and wind turbines to 44 countries across 6 continents this year, ranking fifth in Europe.
In Türkiye, approximately 8.5% of electricity generated from wind energy is used domestically, reducing natural gas imports by about $1 billion. As a result, Türkiye's total wind power capacity is expected to reach 10,000 MW by the end of the year.
On the other hand, the Turkish wind energy sector's target for this year was to increase its electricity capacity by 2,500 megawatts through renewable energy, but this target is now expected to reach 1,200 megawatts due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the report, Türkiye has made significant progress in the wind energy sector and ranks fifth in Europe in terms of equipment production in this field.
Hakan Yıldırım, President of the Turkish Wind Energy Congress, stated in an interview with Anadolu, "This year we produced a 2,500 megawatt turbine for a project, and all parts of this turbine were manufactured in our country."“
