Galata Tower, one of Istanbul's iconic landmarks, has reopened to visitors.

As part of the "Beyoğlu Culture Route" project by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Galata Tower, whose restoration has been completed, was opened to the public with a concert by singer Zeynep Bastık and the Uninvited Jazz Band.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said that they chose to open the tower on a special day, October 6th, which is designated as the anniversary of Istanbul's liberation.

Ersoy pointed out that the tower's previous restoration was completed in 1967, saying, "At that time, the tower was classified with a very different function. It had a function primarily focused on food, drink, and entertainment, and it did not have a function that would be acceptable from today's perspective.".

Ersoy, noting that the Ministry also considered the structure as a point of attraction in Istanbul, continued: “We restructured the function of the building as a museum, permanent and temporary exhibition areas, and from now on, Galata Tower will be used not only as a center of attraction but also as a center for directing people to other valuable cultural assets of Istanbul. We planned the museum inside as one that introduces the valuable buildings and points of Istanbul that you can observe from the tower in detail. Istanbul's history is very, very old. Inside the tower, there is also an exhibition area that shows the development of Istanbul from that ancient history to the history of the Republic.”
